Glycerine Concentration

Introduction

Neutralized glycerine still contains residual water and methanol which have not been totally removed by flashing in the upstream glycerine purification (unit 6166P). This stream is therefore subject to a final drying step: the volatile

methanol and water are evaporated from the top of the column and sent to recovery in the downstream methanol distillation column, while final glycerine is discharged from the bottom, cooled and sent to storage.

Advantages

The Desmet Glycerine Concentration Unit is designed to recover as much as possible water and methanol, which will be further processed in the other plant units, giving as result a purified and concentrated glycerine stream to be sent to storage as by-product.
